Let me, before I begin, ask a simple but crucial question: what truly defines the strength and economic future of a nation? The answer lies, without a doubt, in its capacity to build a diversified and resilient industry. Let us delve our hearts into an analysis of the key sectors of Algerian industry.

Industry: Engine of Growth and Innovation

Industry, born from the Industrial Revolution, is essential for economic growth and innovation. It creates jobs, stimulates mass production and strengthens national self-sufficiency. However, it poses environmental challenges. The current generation benefits from its technological advances, but must also promote a sustainable industry. Industry offers varied career opportunities and encourages continuous education, while requiring solid infrastructure to support its development. Algerian industry, in full expansion, plays a crucial role in the economic growth and innovation of the country.

Algerian agri-food sector: major economic pillar

The Algerian agri-food industry represents 40% of Algerian GDP, with a remarkable growth of 15.1% in 2021. This dynamic sector has 23,000 companies, including 600 public companies, and generates agricultural production reaching a turnover of 24.576 billion euros, covering 90% of national needs. In 2022, Algeria imported 299 million euros of agri-food equipment and 310 million euros of agricultural equipment, demonstrating the ongoing modernization.

Advantage: This performance reduces food dependency and strengthens economic sovereignty.

Algerian pharmaceutical industry: continental leader in the making

With 175 production units and 60 new factories launched in 2022, Algeria is positioned as the 2nd largest producer of medicines in Africa, after South Africa. The sector records a turnover of approximately 2.4 billion euros, with 75% coverage of national drug needs. Large groups, including SAIDAL, are involved in innovative production, particularly in oncology and insulin.

Advantage: The growth of this industry improves access to care, reduces imports and promotes technology transfer.

Algerian petrochemicals and plastics: industrial diversification

Petrochemicals: A total of 14.4 billion euros is invested in complexes to transform oil, gas, methanol and phosphate into finished products.

Plastics: In 2021, 600 million euros were allocated to a plastic packaging plant and 7.5 million euros to recycling. Imports of packaging equipment (136 million euros) and plastics (91 million euros) illustrate an industrialization effort.

Advantage: These investments support exports, reduce dependence on raw materials, and create skilled jobs.

Algerian industry is not just a promise, it is a reality in progress, a force that shapes the future of the nation. By consolidating agri-food sovereignty, positioning the pharmaceutical industry as a regional model, and transforming resources into wealth through petrochemicals and plastics, this will make this country a strong and resilient economy.

The commitment is clear: to strengthen these sectors, encourage innovation, create jobs, and ensure that every Algerian benefits from this prosperity. Algeria is a sustainable economic power and a success story for the world.
