China dominated the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games with 207 medals, including 96 gold, confirming their place as the leader. Great Britain, with 124 medals (41 gold), came in second, while the neutral Russian athletes finished third with 118 medals (36 gold). Historically, the United States has led the Paralympic medal count since 1960, with 2,175 medals. Germany, with 1,443 medals, ranks among the top nations, and France, seventh overall with 949 medals.

Medal count: The last three Paralympic Games

China:


China has emerged as a Paralympic superpower in recent decades. At the Rio 2016 Games, China won 239 medals, including 107 gold, 81 silver, and 51 bronze. At the Tokyo 2020 Games, China again dominated with 207 medals, including 96 gold, 60 silver, and 51 bronze. At London 2012, China also shone with 231 medals (95 gold, 71 silver, 65 bronze). In total, China has accumulated 677 medals over the last three editions.


Great Britain:


Great Britain, the host country of the 2012 Games, has also demonstrated its superiority. At London 2012, it won 120 medals (34 gold, 43 silver, 43 bronze). At Rio 2016, it won 147 medals (64 gold, 39 silver, 44 bronze) and at Tokyo 2020, 124 medals (41 gold, 38 silver, 45 bronze). Combining these results, Great Britain has a total of 391 medals over the last three editions.


United States:


The United States continues to be a leading nation at the Paralympic Games. At London 2012, they won 98 medals (31 gold, 29 silver, 38 bronze). At Rio 2016, American athletes won 115 medals (40 gold, 44 silver, 31 bronze). At Tokyo 2020, they finished with 104 medals (37 gold, 36 silver, 31 bronze). Combined, the United States has won 317 medals.

Comparison with historical performance.

Historically, the United States has been the undisputed leader of the Paralympic Games with a total of 2,175 medals since 1960. Great Britain follows with 1,789 medals, and Germany comes in third with 1,443 medals. However, China’s rise to prominence is remarkable, with 1,033 medals, a figure that continues to rise rapidly.

While the United States remains at the top of the overall rankings, China and Great Britain are the nations that have made the most of recent editions, asserting their dominance in global Paralympic sport.
