After the success of its previous editions, the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), initially scheduled for Guinea, will be hosted by Morocco. With a substantial budget allocated to the organization, this 35th edition aims to go beyond simple sporting issues to assert itself as a lever for economic development.

The provisions of Morocco, the host country of the 35th edition of the 2025 AFCON

The 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations is part of a dynamic of promoting African football initiated during previous editions, that of 2023 which offered a spectacle of exceptional intensity. Organized in Morocco, this new edition carries important stakes and draws on Morocco's experience and its modern infrastructures to offer a memorable competition. The decision to entrust the organization of this CAN 2025 TotalEnergies to Morocco was taken after Guinea, initially designated, was unable to meet the deadlines and requirements of CAF. Based on previous events already organized by Morocco, international sporting events such as the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the FIFA Club World Cup, the country was able to convince CAF thanks to its logistical, financial and organizational guarantees. Morocco is therefore positioning itself as a trusted partner for this prestigious competition. Six cities have been selected to host the matches of this prestigious competition scheduled from January 11 to February 8, 2025. The cities concerned are Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Fez, Agadir and Marrakech.

The case of the Mohammed V Stadium which will benefit from a complete renovation to meet FIFA standards. More than 20 million euros are intended for training grounds, media centers and VIP areas. A significant portion, estimated at €50 million, will be invested in improving transport infrastructure to ensure smooth travel between host cities. A significant portion will also be devoted to the international promotion of the event and welcoming delegations. The impact of this investment on the country's economy

The financing of this CAN 2025 TotalEnergies is provided at 70% by the Moroccan State, while 30% comes from partnerships with major sponsors such as Royal Air Maroc, local companies and international institutions such as CAF and FIFA.

In return, this investment should generate economic benefits estimated at more than €500 million. Thanks to the influx of tourists, an increase of approximately 20% in foreign visitors is expected during the event. The creation of more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in the construction, hotel and transport sectors, as well as an increase in Morocco's international visibility is targeted during and after this event.

The TotalEnergies CAN 2025 would therefore be a real catalyst for growth for Morocco, a source of sustainable benefits for the country beyond being a simple football celebration.

This new edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations promises to be an unforgettable spectacle that will once again bring the entire continent together around its passion for football. However, one question remains: will Morocco succeed in reconciling organizational excellence and the challenges inherent in such an event?
